Steinway Musical Instruments Inc.: Sales and profits rise
WALTHAM, Mass. -- Steinway Musical Instruments Inc. reported Thursday an increase of 7 percent in net sales and gross profits for the second quarter.
Steinway is the parent company of Elkhart's Conn-Selmer, Inc., the largest manufacturer and distributor of band and orchestral instruments in the United States.
Price increases helped buoy piano sales for the second quarter to $46 million, a 3 percent gain over the second quarter of 2004.
Band and orchestral instrument sales also rose to $46 million in the second quarter, a 12 percent increase over the same period a year ago.
Allegiant Air LLC: First flight from South Bend to Las Vegas
SOUTH BEND -- The inaugural flight of Allegiant Air LLC took off from South Bend Regional Airport at 1:40 p.m. Friday. The airline is providing nonstop jet service to Las Vegas.
The flights will run each week on Monday and Friday, departing South Bend at 1:40 p.m. and arriving at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas at 3:40 p.m.
Flights will leave Las Vegas at 7:20 a.m. and arrive in South Bend at 1 p.m. All flight times are local.
"Nonstop air service to Las Vegas and the potential for similar service to Orlando, meet two of the top three needs of the area's traveling public," said South Bend Regional Airport Director John Shalliol.
Fleetwood Enterprises Inc.: Sales figures for first quarter announced
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. announced preliminary sales for the first quarter of fiscal 2006, which ended July 31.
Overall company revenues declined 7 percent, primarily because of weak recreational vehicle sales.
Manufactured housing sales reached $204 million, a 4 percent increase over the $196 for the same year one year ago.
RV sales fell to $423 million, down from the $486 million tallied in the first quarter of fiscal 2005.
Preliminary figures show sales of travel trailers were off 30 percent, motorhomes were slowed by 6 percent and folding trailers dipped 4 percent.
